Medical & Surgical Retina

Dr Chris Qureshi is an ophthalmologist at Westmead Hospital, Sydney, with fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Oxford University, UK. He is committed to excellence in delivery of eye care in Australia and in developing countries with projects in Fiji and Kenya.

Dr Qureshi’s passion for ophthalmology began early in medical school at the Sydney Eye Hospital where he participated in research in ocular melanoma. Having graduated from the University of NSW with advanced science and medical degrees he went on to complete a Masters in Ophthalmic Science at the University of Sydney with research into the delivery of healthcare to indigenous Australians. This passion for ophthalmology saw him later return to the Sydney Eye Hospital for training and then completing his first fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Westmead Hospital.

Dr Qureshi was accepted into the Oxford University Hospital in the UK for a further fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery where he learnt new techniques in gene therapy, general and paediatric retinal surgery and was exposed to new technologies such as the retinal implant. As the senior vitreoretinal fellow in Oxford, he taught retinal surgery to fellows from Spain, Germany, Australia and the UK.

As part of the team at Specialist Eye Centre and with Westmead Hospital he continues his special interest in treating diseases of the retina, vitreous and macula. He actively participates in research and teaching of registrars, medical students, optometrists and general practitioners.

As a proud father of four young children, Chris loves to spend time with his family. He is a car and aviation enthusiast and is working toward a pilot’s licence. He also shares his knowledge and skills in mentoring local community youth groups
